I love learning about new destinations. Our latest travel blogger interview features not one, not two but three new destinations I’m adding to my bucket list! No surprise really, as Hanne from Places People Stories has travelled to over fifty countries over five continents. *whispers* Heard of San Blas?…
Why do you love travel?
There are several reasons why I love to travel. However, the principal reason would be that I meet new people from different countries. I learn from them, their culture, ways and stories. This contribute to that I get new perspectives of things. I really enjoy to live among the locals, and observe and take part in their daily life. Everywhere I have been to, people have been so welcoming and kind to me. They have showed so much love, and made me a better person. So the wonderful people that I met on my way around the world, is the main reason why I love to travel.
What destination is top of your bucket list?
To be honest, every country I have not visited yet is on my bucket-list. However, on top are the places I think I will be able to visit next. The next big trip I will most likely go on, will be to Mexico, Honduras and Belize.
Furthermore, I would love to see more of east Europe soon. Romania, Hungary, Macedonia, and Slovakia. But also Russia. I hope I will be able to visit these countries this year.
Then I have wanted to visit Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia for a long time. But I think it will be hard to visit these country very soon. Maybe next year.
Where is your most favourite place you have travelled to?
San Blas, in Panama. What a destination! It is really a traveler’s paradise. It is one of the most beautiful places I have visited with it’s over 300 small islands. Here you will find crystal clear water, perfect white sand beaches and colorful coral reeves. You will also experience a lot of culture visiting San Blas due to that you will be living with the Kuna Indians. There is no hotels, just cabins build by the locals.
San Blas is still a pretty unknown destinations, which is also why I love it so much. It is not ruined by tourism yet.
What is your most favourite memory or experience whilst travelling?
I have so many great memories from my travels. Visiting the Ganvie village in Benin is one of them. Before arriving to Benin, I had no idea that this floating village existed, so it was a pleasant surprise. It is the biggest community living on water in the world and the city is built on stilts. It was so amazing to see that the locals did everything from their wooden canoes. Shopping, transporting, and working. It was really eye-opening as I had no idea that people could live like this. But it is a testimony that we humans can adapt to everything. Even living on water.
What is your favourite photo from your travels?
A picture I took when I lived in Nigeria. I was in the countryside making some interviews for an NGO I was working for. Then a flock of children saw me, and started running towards me of joy of me being there. They were all so curious and happy to see me. I think I was the first white person they had ever seen. And it was the first time I experienced something like this, and I felt happy by seeing them so happy sharing time with me. Afterwards, I have experience this more times, for example in Bolivia and India. However, as that was the first time it felt pretty special, and due to the good feelings and all the memories I get when seeing it, it is my favorite picture.
