We’re back (finally!) with another travel blogger interview. Meet Jure from Call of Travel. Having visited more than 30 countries around the world, our Five Travel Questions are back with a bang!
Why do you love travel?
I get bored with staying in the same place for a long time or with any sort of routine for that matter. I tend to have a problem with being more active in the city I live in and quickly fall back into a life I’m usually not completely content with. Travel is an easy way to break that monotony as you’re constantly faced with an environment you aren’t used to. Some people find this stressful and that’s why you wont see them on the road outside of an organized tour, but I, like almost all other independent travelers thrive on this feeling of freedom and unpredictability.
I sometimes visit the most famous places in the world and somehow leave feeling disappointed to some degree. And then I’ll get enormously impressed by the smallest things on the other hand. For me it’s those small unexpected moments, which make travel special.
Of course this is just one side of my love for travel and there are many more, but we’d need something like ten pages to talk about it :).
What destination is top of your bucket list?
First of all let me just be annoying for a moment and say I hate this phrase! I feel it diminishes the world into short snapshots of “must-do’s and see’s”, resulting in throngs of people visiting places just to snap a selfie there. That to me is not what traveling is about.
Having had my little rant there, now I can tell you about some places I would really like to visit in the future. As far as countries are concerned, I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand, ever since I was a child and just loved how the name of the country sounded. I think it also has to do with the fact that it’s one of the furthest places from Slovenia to travel to and that always had a special ring of adventure to me. Further on I’m eyeing Japan, China, Iceland, South Africa, Canada and Iran, so we’ll see what happens first.
Where is your most favourite place you have travelled to?
That would be Argentina! I’m first and foremost a big fan of the great outdoors. I love nature and am crazy about spending time outside and admiring vast spaces, unspoiled by the human hand. Argentina is just breathtaking in this regards – from the glaciers of Patagonia, marine life of the Atlantic coast, Alpine regions of the lake district, the magnificent Andes, arid north west to the subtropical spectacle of Iguazu Falls. And the people… some of the friendliest and warmest I’ve ever encountered. There’s just so much to see & do in Argentina.
What is your most favourite memory or experience whilst travelling?
There’s been so many of them I honestly can’t pinpoint one specific occasion.
My most memorable travel experiences often turn out to be the ones I haven’t planned in advance. And in almost all cases it’s the people that make them special. I’ve actually done a blog post highlighting some of these experiences I’ve had in the past, talking about how It’s the unexpected that makes travel special. It ranges from sleeping in a graveyard, swimming in a pool of roses to surviving a whole day on nothing but coconuts after my cousin got drunk and disappeared with my money and passport. It’s a fun read!
What is your favourite photo from your travels?
That would most definitely have to be this charging Alpaca in Peru! We were basicaly minding our own business, drinking tea in a roadside restaurant high up in the Andes, when all of a sudden this beast came charging in. Before we knew it, it had its head in the sugar bowl and was happily licking all of it away. Looks more like it’s doing cocaine to be honest 🙂
