Luxury Cycling Holidays Are All The Rage
Cycling is a sport and pastime that has captured the imagination of the British public of late. More and more of us are taking to the roads on two wheels rather than four, and the appetite for all things bike is seemingly insatiable.
Tour operators have been quick to get on board with the growing demand from cyclists and there is now a wealth of different styles of holiday available to those who wish to ride their way across a destination. Lazing about on a beach doesn’t suit everyone, so these action packed holidays are the ideal solution for many travellers and their growing availability shows that more people are taking to the idea of a vacation on two wheels.
The choice is endless
Deciding on whereabouts you want to visit for your luxury cycling holiday may well be the toughest decision you’ll have to make. There are now so many destinations to choose from that you may well end up pulling a name out of hat! Do not, however, forget about what is on your doorstep – the UK has some extraordinary options available to those who wish to stay close to home when they travel.
Nevertheless, if you have your heart set on an overseas adventure, the world really is your oyster when it comes to finding a destination suitable for exploring by bike. Here are some of our favourites:
Kvarner Bay, Croatia
Kvarner Bay in Croatia offers visitors the perfect getaway, whether you are on a bike or not. Filled with historical places to visit and stunning scenery ranging from deep green forests through to crystal clear waters and hidden coves, this part of the world is made for exploration. You can choose between relaxing rides and exhilarating trips when you go out cycling here, making Kvarner Bay perfect for everyone.
Lake Garda, Italy
Lake Garda is well known for its luxurious air, but cycling holidays here are relatively new. However, it is easy to see why they have taken off in the way that have. With plenty of fine fruit orchards, amazing vineyards and, of course, the spectacular scenery surrounding the lake itself to explore, choosing this part of Italy is sure to delight.
Dalat City, Vietnam
If you enjoy visiting the Far East, Dulat City is the best place to head to. Unlike the rest of Vietnam, Dalat City has somewhat of a European air to it. Luxury travellers will be pleased to find some really rather swanky hotels here and the things to see and do are plentiful. One thing to bear in mind, however, is when you choose to visit, as choosing the rainy season can be less than fun if you are doing your exploring on two wheels. Opt for December to March for the best chance to stay dry.
What article on cycling would be complete without mentioning Amsterdam? Possibly the bike capital of Europe, this Dutch city is the perfect retreat for those who wish to take things easy, and it is a perfect choice for over 50s going on a cycling holiday. Explore the canals and visit some of the most famous cultural sites in the world while you are here. You can even pack up your stuff and head over to Bruges to visit their magnificent medieval squares if you’re feeling especially adventurous. Plus of course, Amsterdam is relatively flat, making cycling easier and for most, more enjoyable!
