Weekends away are great, but whose going to look after your furry little friend?

We bought two automated cat gadgets which have been a game changer.
One of them is the PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Cat Litter.
Our cat Nacho is super picky about his litter tray. We found this out the hard way. When we first rescued him, we cleaned his litter tray once a week. In an act of protexst, he used a corner of our bedroom as a second litter tray…
After this event, we moved to cleaning his tray once in the morning and once before bed. There must be an easier way that saves our backs!
There is! But at a cost.
£145 to be precise. And that’s not including add-ons in the future.
The replaceable trays cost £17… The trays do come with a 2kg bag of crystal cat litter which is enough for a month.
I would say the cat litter lasts for a maximum of 2 weeks before it starts to get gross. Also, the poop starts to fill up in its hidden compartment.
If you’ve never used crystal cat killet before, it absorbs liquid (for a week or two). It also does a good job of drying the poop too, so it doesn’t smell as much as we thought it would.
It can also be quite sharp so it’s worth buying a small bag and introducing it to your cat to see if they will use it (and avoid the upset of spending £145 on the PetSafe litter tray!)
The trays have a coating on the inside which means you can they don’t get soaking wet. So when you empty the old contents, it can be reused (otherwise it would be too costly to replace the trays this often).
Does it require much maintenance other than that? Not really. Depending on your cats habits, it may move the litter to one side and the automated grill can’t quite even it out. It’s worth keeping a cat litter scoop close by to move the litter around.
The grill can sometimes have bits of poop stuck to it so it requires cleaning every so often. You can set a maximum timer of 20 minutes before the grill switches on, giving poop ample time to dry.

And I just give the whole machine a clean with a wet wipe. When you change the tray, all you have to do is put the lid on and place it in the bin!
Would I buy the PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Cat Litter if it broken today? Yes. Despite the high price, not having to clean Nacho’s litter tray as often is definitely worth the high price.
