Sharing more of my favourite travel bloggers from around the world, today we have Ruben Alonso from Ruben y el Mundo who takes on our Five Travel Questions!
Why do you love travel?
When I was a teenager and saw travel reports and documentaries, I always told my family I wanted to see that site. They were far away places that I never imagined I could get to, but today it is increasingly easy to travel and nowhere is impossible. You know travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.
What destination is top of your bucket list?
I love the Mediterranean. It is the cradle of humanity. There is Rome, Athens, Egypt, Persia … It is the cradle of religions, the sea is a delight, the food is the best in the world … For me, life’s journey is to travel around the Mediterranean, but unfortunately there are many places where it is now difficult to travel.
Where is your most favourite place you have travelled to?
I am a big fan of Europe: its history, its heritage, its museums … They are amazing. But best things about a trip are the experiences you have and the people you meet. You can enjoy unforgettable experiences in places unremarkable. For example, I remember fondly the time I spent in Guatemala with an Indian family. The place was not special, but the memory and the experience was unforgettable.
What is your most favourite memory or experience whilst travelling?
I have great memories of my time in Australia in a hospital for Koalas. Koalas are so so cute!
What is your favourite photo from your travels?
I remember a trip I made to an area called Karosta Latvia. This city in the Soviet Union was a closed military city – it is now a ghost town. It is spectacular to see an entire city deserted. It seems unreal, but it exists.
