Simone – The Aussie Flashpacker

Who better to have as a travel companion than your partner? We ask Simone, one half of wanderluster couple The Aussie Flashpacker (the other half being Dan), an Australian girl & English guy who fell in love when we met whilst travelling around South America. Having travelled to six continents, they’ve had some pretty incredible luxurious travels and adventures around the world…

Why do you love travel?

Travelling is without doubt my favourite  thing in the world to do! There’s nothing like arriving in a new city, wandering the streets, eating incredible new foods, stumbling over the language & meeting local people! I think travel also puts you out of your comfort zone and makes you realise you can do things you never thought possible! Travel completely broadens your horizons and the experiences I’ve had whilst travelling are priceless! The minute I arrive home from a trip I’m already planning the next one!

What destination is top of your bucket list?

Oooh this is a tough one! I think I’ll need at least five, and I think I’m more about experiences than actual places… I’d say searching for the big five on Safari in Africa, island hopping around the Greek Islands, sleeping in an ice igloo whilst spotting the Northern Lights, paying my respects to the ANZACs at Gallipoli in Turkey & living it up in paradise in the Maldives.

Where is your most favourite place you have travelled to?

Again a tough question but my answer would have to be Italy. My  wanderlust and love of travelling first began when I visited Italy on a High School trip from Australia when I was 16. I’ve since been back twice on a tour and last year with my boyfriend Dan. Having studied ancient history throughout my schooling and as one of my majors at University I fell in love with Italian history. The country itself is so beautiful, bursting with history, stunning beaches, cobblestoned streets, friendly people and the most incredible food! I adore Italy and would go back in a heart beat.

What is your most favourite memory or experience whilst travelling?

I’d have to say hiking the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu. This had been at the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember and to actually complete the pilgrimage to Machu Picchu was one of the best experiences of my life. It was hard but worth every moment. It was one of those bucket list experiences that completely lived up to the expectations!

What is your favourite photo from your travels?

One of my favourite photos would be this photo of Dan & I on our camels in the middle of the Sahara Desert in Morocco. It was the middle of summer and 50 °C and so incredibly hot but we absolutely loved it. It was also our first holiday together after I moved to England, so for the two of us I think it was a really special holiday. Morocco was also so so so different to anywhere we’d ever visited and we absolutely loved every minute of the trip!
