A Giant Reindeer in Covent Garden and the London Eye! – Photos of London

This week’s Photos of London series feature my experience eating an ostrich burger, the view of London from Waterloo Bridge, a giant reindeer and baubles at Covent Garden and a sparkling London Eye at night.

I was really disappointed with the Christmas market at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park – it’s far too busy!

There clearly isn’t enough room for everyone to walk along and took me at least twenty minutes to walk from one side of the market to the other – and that was without stopping to look at any of the markets.

Things were a lot more calm at the Christmas market along the Southbank Centre. While it was busy too, it didn’t feel like I was in a pack of sheep with no space to move but in a straight line.

There was the usual giant German hot dogs (which smell incredible), mulled wine, sweet shops, Christmas gifts and decorations etc, but this sign caught my eye in particular!

At this point I was starving and could have eaten a horse, but that wasn’t on the menu. Kangaroo did appeal but I figured ostrich was their speciality so that was the one to try. For an extra 50p I also had onions with chilli and mayonnaise sauce. It was… different, I’ll give them that.

The texture was a lot more compact than that of a regular hamburger and far less juicier when you bite into it. It wasn’t horrible by any means but I think I’ll stick to hamburgers – or maybe try a kangaroo burger next time! Luckily there was lots of the chilli and mayonnaise sauce which complemented the melt-in-your-mouth onions perfectly. It’s given me a great idea for a side dip!

Next I walked over Waterloo Bridge (it still amazes me that I’m still finding places I haven’t been before in central London) and caught this shot of the London Eye and the sun shining through the clouds and behind Big Ben.

My favourite moment of Sunday was coming across this giant reindeer at Covent Gardens! The picture doesn’t really do it justice because it had fairy lights blinking on and of all over it’s body! Very pretty indeed and I love its red nose!

Inside the Covent Garden Market building the had decorated the roof which varying sizes of baubles – some of which were huge!

I’ve seen it many times in pictures, but I think this is the first time I have seen the London Eye lit up at night. There was point when the building on the right (does it have a name) performed a dancing light show but I couldn’t get my camera out in time!

Have you tried an ostrich burger and if so what did you think? Do you think the giant reindeer at Covent Garden is the best Christmas decoration you have seen in London? Tell me in the comments section below!
