Honest Burger Review: Best Burger Near Oxford Street

Bacon ketchup? You know I’m ordering that.

I found a new favourite condiment. And a new favourite burger joint in London.

Burgers are a dime a dozen in the capital, so what makes Honest Burger’s so honest?

They use quality products like free range eggs, ginger pig dry aged beef and market vegetables, so you don’t have to feel too bad for ordering this fast food favourite. And you really can see and taste the difference.

All burgers on the menu are served with chips for the listed price (and a good portion at that) so no need to order separately (because you can’t have a burger without chips).

What I love about Honest Burgers’ chips is the difference in shapes and sizes. Some foodies love them thick and fluffy, others thin and crispy. I have a foot in both camps (what I’m trying to say is I love chips whichever way they come). Oh, almost forgot to mention they come with rosemary sprinkled on the top.

Oh and back to the bacon ketchup. On its own, sure bacon in puréed form is weird to start with, but you wouldn’t eat tomato ketchup on its own would you? Bacon and chips go well together in this case.

Top tip when eating the Special Burger. I recommend cutting the burger in half to make it much more manageable to eat. It’s quite a handful, and mouthful for that matter (as usual, I was too busy eating to notice the knife supplied).

What you’ll notice on your first bite of the Special Burger is heat on your tongue from the chilli sauce! But it’s soon extinguished from the thick burger juices (served medium rare by staff suggestion). Somehow the onion ring maintains its crunchiness while this is all happening. And they’ve encased this in a toasted but fluffy bun (gluten free buns are available for an additional £1).

I also had a glass of homemade lemonade which was delicious and very refreshing. It tasted significantly less sugary than a Schweppes lemonade for example.

All things considered, Honest Burger must have one of the best burger and chips combo in London. Great price, great portion and most importantly the food to match.
